Freshly excavated: My experiments from yesterday. 
This had been on my mind for quite a while, after I had seen a beautiful urn in the Haithabu viking museum near Schleswig, Germany.

I carved the clay with a toothpick and covered it with an acrylic paint patina after baking.
It looks a bit more grayish "in person".
Size: 4 cm in diameter
was so kind to offer some advice on working with acrylic paint, I thinned the mix I had made down with water, and it worked really great.
It was a special experience to sit there and carve an image that is more than 1000 years old. I felt a strong sense of connection to the person who originally did this, and this was really touching. It would make a great school project
